The NC Real Estate Commission has approved a new ethics course titled Ethics in Real Estate Advertising.

Brian Pate wrote this course, which will be offered for the first time via Zoom beginning October 22, 2024. There are online and in-person courses available for registration here. Seating for in-person courses is limited.

Ethics in Real Estate Advertising is a four-hour continuing education course approved by the North Carolina Real Estate Commission. It also meets the 2.5-hour ethics requirements of the National Association of Realtors.

In this course, attendees will study the Code of Ethics in depth, including the Preamble and eight different articles and standards of practice.

Attendees will also be able to compare and contrast the Code of Ethics and the rules of the North Carolina Real Estate Commission.

Here is the outline for the course:

Ethics in Real Estate Advertising

Segment 1: History of the Code of Ethics

  • Identify concepts in the Preamble
  • Explain the evolution of the Code of Ethics
  • Compare why consumers hate Realtors with their operations

Segment 2: Structure of the Code of Ethics

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the structure of the Code
  • Evaluate differences between the Code of Ethics and North Carolina law and NC Real Estate Commission Rules
  • Summarize specific Standards of Practice 1-9 and 3-11 of the Code of Ethics

Segment 3: Enforcement of the Code

  • Distinguish the differences between Ombudsman and Mediator
  • Explain the process of formal dispute resolution for ethics complaints and arbitration
  • Formulate an understanding of the role of the Grievance Committee and their responsibilities in the different applications

Segment 4: Focus on Advertising

  • Identify the Articles in the Code of Ethics that apply to advertising
  • Differentiate between NAR Code of Ethics Rules and NCREC rules for advertising
  • Analyze advertisements to discover unethical or illegal practices

Segment 5: Realtor Marketing

  • Employ techniques to maximize marketing that is in compliance with both NAR Code of Ethics standards and the NC Real Estate Commission License Law
  • Explain the concept of Search Engine Optimization and how different internet advertising sites are used to elevate agent advertising
  • Enhance your Zillow, Homes.com, Realtor.com, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and other advertising profiles
