Home prices continue to rise in the US according to data from a Federal Reserve Bank and Zillow indicator.
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, the median home sale price in the United States as of June 30, 2023 is $416,100. That is down 3% from the first quarter of 2023 when the median home sale price was $429,000.
The most expensive state to buy a house is Hawaii, with a median home value of $966,572 according to the Zillow Home Value Index. West Virginia wins the prize for the least expensive home at $155,687.
Historically, home values have gone from $123,900 in 1990, to $165,300 in 2020, to $222,500 in 2010, to $329,000 in 2020 and now over $400,000 for the first time.
From 1980 to the second quarter of 2023, the median home sales price rose 553%.
The Zillow Home Value Index represents the typical home value in a given area rather than the median price. In the United States as a collective, the ZHVI at the end of June was $349,329.
