Do you look at your traffic report for your website and see the information below? Do you understand what it means?
Bot traffic can be a benefit because it means agentic traffic could be visiting your website. That means artificial intelligence crawlers like OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Claude, are crawling your website.
Autonomous artificial intelligence systems are no longer science fiction. The already browse the internet, compare products, gather information and even complete transactions on behalf of people.
The activity generated by these agents is known as agentic traffic. Unlike traditional bot traffic, agentic traffic represents real consumer intent because the agents act for people who intend to buy, research or engage.
Researchers have observed that this traffic is growing fast. It increased more than 1,300 percent in the first eight months of 2025, rising to about 4.5 million requests per month.
Today, it accounts for less than one percent of all web interactions, but analysts expect it to become a major source of online visits over the next decade.

What is Agentic Traffic?
AN AI agent is an autonomous program that perceives its environment, makes decisions and takes action to achieve a goal.
When users instruct these agents through chat interfaces like ChatGPT or other specialized shopping assistants, the agents do the browsing and buying.
The activity shows up in website analytics from “non-human” users or “bot users.” Unlike standard crawlers or scrapers that simply harvest data, agentic traffic is goal-directed and sometimes involves a real purchase intent.
Agentic traffic includes agents that can browse websites, compare products, fill out forms and even book appointments or make purchases. In simple terms, these agents function like digital concierges for their users. They operate within set boundaries but act independently, gathering information and taking steps toward a specific outcome.
Growth and Early Trends
Because the technology is still new, agentic traffic is small compared with other forms of automated activity, and it is growing quickly.
Data gathered by cybersecurity company Human Security shows that agentic traffic jumped by more than 1,300 percent between January and August 2025. By August, the company saw nearly 4.5 million agent driven web requests each month. The release of commercial agents such as ChatGPT and Perplexity Comet in mid-2025 led to a sharp increase in visits.
Human Security found that 87% of pages browsed by agents were product pages; only 3.9% involved account logins and 2.2% reached checkout forms.
Analysts not that consumer adoption is still early but accelerating. Surveys cited by McKinsey show that 44% of users who have tried AI-powered search now prefer it to traditional search engines.
There have been predictions that by 2035, as much as 80% of internet traffic could be driven by AI agents.
