In a recent announcement from Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, he revealed the social media platform will introduce AI-powered editing tools for video that will allow users to change “nearly any aspect” of videos using text prompts.

In his teaser video, Mosseri can be seen discussing “Movie Gen,” while he changes backgrounds, adds a fur coat to his wardrobe, and a gold chain.

The system is not completely finished but it does give indications of what Meta can do with its Movie Gen AI model. Instagram plans to release the feature in 2025.

How Do Seniors Feel About AI?

For small business owners, this tool could provide another boost to marketing and advertising. Harnessing the power of artificial intelligence has become a focus for many entrepreneurs and small business owners. It replaces what would otherwise be a massive budget to compete in the online video and marketing space.

There have been mixed responses so far from commenters on the teaser video. Many question the need for more AI-generated content, when Instagram seems to be dominated by AI already.

Part of the goal for Instagram is to help users create video on the app rather than resorting to third-party apps like Capcut.

Whether or not the AI content will drive more interaction, it certainly breeds creativity for novices on the platform. Sadly, it doesn’t take a crystal ball to see that this could be used for nefarious purposes. Deepfakes and misinformation are already rampant on social media and the line dividing AI content vs real content is becoming thinner and harder to distinguish.

When will we hit a tipping point to push people to place more value in personal interactions vs social media interactions? That remains to be seen.

For now, the power a mobile device wields with its constant notifications while in our hands, in a pocket, or sitting on a table at dinner, is controlling daily life for people all over the world.
