I am often asked, “How many Realtors are there?”

For many, it may seem like everyone has a real estate license and sells real estate “on the side.”

To clarify, all Realtors hold a real estate license but not all licensees are Realtors.

According to data from the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO),  there are more than 3 million people in the United States that hold a real estate license.

At the end of 2021, The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported 1,547,699 members of the organization.

In May of 2022, NAR reported 1,563,502 members and in June that number had risen to 1,576,668.

Realtors are members of NAR and the state and local association. They are often required to be members in order to have access to the Multiple Listing Service, which is frequently owned by the local Realtor association.

The average income of a Realtor is dependent upon how it is broken down. Based on estimates for 2022, the average income for a Realtor in the United States is $40,791.16.
